Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for load transfer
- Load characteristics are identified to determine special handling or equipment requirements
- Job hazards are identified and required action is taken to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
- Location of load in yard is confirmed and transfer method is determined
- Pathway for load transfer is established consistent with workplace procedures, and obstacles and particular safety precautions are noted
- Working area is prepared in accordance with national standards, safety codes and site operating procedures
- Personal protective equipment and other safety equipment is assembled
- Safe working load (SWL) or working load limit (WLL) is calculated using appropriate formulae for type of lifting equipment
- Lifting equipment is inspected, before it is used, to identify any manufacturing faults or damage, in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
- Unsafe equipment is isolated, marked as unsafe and reported to appropriate personnel
- Transfer cargo
- Complete transfer
- Securing arrangements are released from load, ensuring no injury to personnel or damage to machinery or cargo
- Relevant documentation is completed including reporting of damaged cargo in accordance with workplace reporting requirements
- Equipment is returned to store and work area is returned to normal working condition
